The Nippori Expedition

Both groups of the Sewing Circle went to the Fabric Town in Nippori.

It is called “Sen- I- Gai” and 86 textile and apparel stores line up between Nippori Station, Usuguidani and Mikawashima Station.

We did a couple of great bargains:

3 meters of apple green heavy weight jersey for only ¥100 per meter at MOMO (No. 59)

a bag of buttons for ¥100 at TOMATO (No. 48) and quilted cotton for ¥290 per meter  at ZAK ZAK (No. 64)!

A must to see was the lovely shop ON TRAVELLING (No.43).

They offer african style textile, crochet bordures and a wonderful selection of cute buttons on two floors.

I’d also like to recommend Yasuda Cotton (No. 77).

Yasuda is a family run business. They offer a large selection of high quality cotton for a very good price-balance.

The fabrics are mostly designed in Japan, but have the modern “slow life” touch, which is very in fashion among the hand-making scene. (Another smaller Yasuda store can be find at the beginning of the textile road:  No.20)

Another recommendation is Iwase (No.78). They have the best jerseys and run the little store with a great sense for style and quality.

In case you get hungry and are walking with kids and strollers, go to the restaurant “Hana no Mai”

(はなの舞, Higashi Nippori 6-60-5, on the Map opposite to No.4). They offer Japanese style lunch, have a spacious Tatami room and are VERY kids friendly!!
